Anyone feel like a weekend in Sackville this summer?

From OldTimeFamilyBaseball:
Mark Your Calendars: Chris Ray’s Beer to Debut At Safeco Field on July 29th

Baseball and beer has always enjoyed a happy relationship— like Mork and Mindy it’s impossible to think of one without the other. Finally then, comes a man who provides both the on-field entertainment and the off-field refreshments.

Chris Ray, currently on an 11 inning scoreless streak, will make the move from home brewing hobbyist to craft beer vendor when his beer, Operation Homefront, is released at Safeco Field at the end of next month.

Released by the Fremont Brewing Company, this particular brew will feature the sweet, sweet flavor that could only be provided by Louisville Slugger Baseball Bats.

From the article at the Washington Beer Blog

“The [Louisville Slugger] maple bats will be used to add some extra character to the beer. They will be added to the conditioning tanks – some of them whole and pristine, others cut into smaller pieces to help enhance the flavor imparted on the beer. Once the beer is ready to package, the whole bats will be removed, dried, and autographed by Ray’s teammates. They will then be auctioned off to raise money for Operation Homefront.”

That. Sounds. Amazing.

Even better, and what will vault Ray to the top of my favorite player list, is this choice quote:

“What I really want to do is brew beer, but you can’t pass up the opportunity to play baseball.”

And may I just I applaud Ray for not using the cheesy pun “Short Hops” when naming his beer. Mostly because that’s the name I’ll be using once I decide to become a Major League Baseball player/craft beer enthusiast.

Definitely check out the full article here and if anyone in Seattle wants to send me a few cases, I’m sure we could arrange something.

I’ve had just about enough silly finger biting and childish trash talking from the NHL and NBA.  Baseball time!

Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter - Pleasuring the Divine

Hard to start posting music again after that long hiatus, but here’s a start.  Don’t know how this group got onto my radar, but I enjoyed their last album and was excited to discover that they’d released a new one.  They’re touring with The Sadies later this summer on the west coast.  Enjoy.

Hello out there

Kind of put this thing on the back-burner for a little while, and I’m not sure if I’ll get back to posting on a regular basis, but a brief update is in order.

I’ve been in Moncton for one month now, which is hard to believe.  It’s gone by really fast and I guess that’s a good thing.  Only three months remain at my current job, and it’s still up in the air in terms of what happens after.  I’ve made it clear to my employer that I want to give it a shot in Moncton, but given that I still don’t have much experience and the company isn’t big enough to just hire anyone, it’s impossible to know what will happen.   As always, I’m trying to enjoy my time no matter what happens.

Got a great old bike to ride around for the summer, getting back into ultimate, and finally found a slopitch team.  Life ain’t that much different than what it was before.  Like I always say to people who ask about living in a very different place than before, it’s still Canada.

Good things about Moncton:  4 minute walk to my desk downtown.  Pumphouse brewery.  Amazingly affordable rent.  Chiac.  Moncton Market and Dexter’s flea market.  Limited hipster sightings.  Oh, and being much closer to my family!

Bad things:  Cars.  Potholes.  Mosquitos.  Wind.  Having to stay up late to watch sports.  Chiac.

I could continue the good/bad list… but I won’t.  Maybe another day?

Over and out.

Os Mutantes - Bat Macumba

..that was fun.

This news has probably made the rounds by now, but to make it official:  I’m leaving Vancouver to start a temporary job in Moncton NB.  The job will take me into September, at which point I’ll make my next move.
Sad to be leaving BC, but the opportunity to get the job experience that I need while bringing me closer to home was impossible to pass up at this point, especially given how long I had been looking for a job.
Going to take an open mind into the new job and new city, and see what happens.  It’s only four months, so I can’t really lose.

NATIONAL PARKS PROJECT

This is unbelievably cool.  Brilliant.

Going to the Vancouver Whitecaps MLS debut game, against Toronto FC.  The Canadian Derby.  Should be a doozy.  My first national TV appearance (check it out on TSN)
